A lot of people have been asking me to put this in some sort of scene, well here you are. I think the space station is a bit rushed though I'll be doing bigger more detailed ones very soon.

The planet was quite hard to do as the original image width was 8000px wide, and A LOT of distortion happens with spherize, which would have been awkward to use on this composition anyway.

This will probably be the last scene from me for a few months as I concentrate on ships, plugs, hangers and starbases...

Please follow this [link] to get a version of this wall paper to fit your screen size. Whilst your there, be sure to check out information about the project as we are still looking for talented artists to work with.

As always, fav's, comments and watches are greatly appreciated.

Varuna Sky by =dreamwa1ker: I really love the quality and details of the station and ships. Lean back, take a full-view and enjoy the sight! ( Suggested by *billndrsn and Featured by `taenaron )

Overall a very nice piece!

I think the technical execution is excellent. A nice blend of digital paint techniques and 3D rendered assets. Love small attention to detail such as the atmospheric "aurora" effect along the planet curvature. Additionally a nice touch with the "speckel" effect (the small circles) along the bottom of the image. Creates the sensation that this is frost accumulated along the bottom of a window from a nearby star-ship from which this scene is being viewed.

If there is a weak area it might be the rather isometric or flat composition. Rather "Atari Defender" retro-video game in layout. Perhaps an alternate treatment of this scene with the ships flying away from or toward the camera with more perspective and leading lines.

Also, you've created such a powerful and interesting image with the station in the background I'd love to see that a bit larger, looming in the distance as a megalith hanging above the planet.

But these are all subjective issues and overall this is a great piece! Now you just need to get on designing more ship concepts as you seem to have a knack for this ;-)

Very nice! I'm loving the exhaust on the ship. What software do you use to get the glow of the exhaust? I'm trying to accomplish the same thing with 3d studio.
